A compact version of the AK74, the AKS-74U bridges the gap between submachine guns and assault rifles. It is the lightest of the AK family assault rifles and fills the role of a close-range assault weapon.
It has a folding stock that can be collapsed making for a very compact weapon, similar in size and handling to submachine guns. The stock accuracy and higher rate of fire also favor close-range scenarios. But, being an assault rifle, it benefits from higher per-shot damage than submachine guns. When paired with the Rail B laser pointer attachment, the weapon is deadly in close-quarter combat.
To extend the weapon out to medium ranges, the collimator-type Cobra D scope can be added to enable accurate shooting whilst keeping a clear field of view. Note however when using a scope attachment on this rifle, the stock must be extended. The weapon's accuracy can be upgraded to enable more consistent hits at medium ranges.
Surprisingly, the AKS-74U is slightly quieter than the sub-machine guns when unsuppressed. Otherwise, it can fit the PBS-1 Silencer to ensure stealth is maintained on missions.
Unlike the other assault rifles in the AK family, this version cannot fit the GP32 grenade launcher due to the shorter, more compact, barrel length. Be sure to bring some grenades when more explosive firepower is needed.
